The pet industry can be very confusing and vary state by state. The good news is pet insurance has become more affordable in the past few years. This Google Sheet/MS Excel guide will help you eliminate companies you don’t need at a glance, plus provide a customizable quote worksheet of questions to ask when calling a pet insurance company. The focus is companies covering cats and dogs. You will find notes and tips I have found while researching these companies throughout the guide. Having a single document for pet parents will save time, prevent confusion, and alleviate frustration. Many websites are providing information based on affiliate links and sponsored ads. Step 1: General Plan Coverage sheet- This sheet is an overview of what is possible from each company- if you had the most coverage. Use this sheet to narrow down to the top 3-4 companies based on your specific needs. "Accident only" will be the most basic plan.

Step 2: Company Contact sheet- Verify that the companies you want have plans in your state.

Step 3: Questions Sheet- Add or eliminate questions as needed. Add your possible company names at the top of sheet. Print out sheet and fill in when talking to agent.

Step 4: Quotes: Use this sheet for the actual dollar amounts for coverage. Use links on Company Contact Sheet for phone numbers. Agent should be able to give you amounts over the phone.

Step 5: Review your new policy thoroughly before signing. Especially note if there are any conditions excluded by breed/species
